A frustrated vegan from Australia decided to express her strong displeasure towards her neighbor’s frequent meat-cooking activities. In a strongly-worded letter addressed to her BBQ-loving neighbor, Sarah, the vegan, voiced her grievances about the overwhelming smell of a backyard BBQ, which she claims made her feel nauceous.
In the letter, which was shared on the “Hey Perth” Facebook page, Sarah made her discontent abundantly clear. She had reached a breaking point after her neighbor, Kylie, organized a backyard BBQ gathering with her friends to commemorate the coronation of King Charles III.
The pervasive aroma of meat proved to be the final straw for Sarah, who had already written a prior letter to Kylie, politely requesting her to close her kitchen window while preparing meat-based dinners.
“Hello neighbour, could you please shut your side window when cooking please? My family are vegan (we eat only plant based foods) and the smell of the meat you cook makes us feel sick and upset. We would appreciate your understanding,” reads the first letter sent from Sarah to Kylie.
“Hello Kylie, you are taking the mickey out of me and have been downright rude,” the letter continued. “I raised my concerns of the smell of meat making my family sick and upset and you go and have a BBQ on Saturday night, inviting lots of people and you knew this would affect me and my family.”
Sarah also pointed out that Kylie had shared her previous letter on social media, which made her feel betrayed. In response, Sarah warned Kylie that she would consider reciprocating by publicizing their ongoing dispute.
“Please no more BBQs and please keep that window closed when cooking otherwise I’m going to report you and go to social media to,” the letter read.
This recent conflict between a BBQ enthusiast and a vegan neighbor is not an isolated incident. It follows a previous clash that occurred four years ago and escalated to the highest court in Perth. Although the case was eventually dismissed by the Western Australia Supreme Court, it was not without its repercussions. In a show of protest, demonstrators organized a large-scale BBQ right outside the residence of the enraged vegan.
