On Saturday, October 18, 2025, a political protest in Swampscott, Massachusetts, turned violent when a Trump supporter wearing an inflatable Donald Trump costume was allegedly assaulted. The incident, captured on cellphone video, occurred during a “No Kings” rally at King’s Beach, a North Shore town near Boston.
Jonathan Silveira, the man in the costume, was holding an American flag and expressing support for former President Donald Trump. According to Silveira, he was simply trying to “get Trump out there and show he has support” without seeking conflict. However, 36-year-old Michael Curll allegedly ran up behind Silveira, kicked him, and tackled him to the ground. The attack was recorded by Silveira’s girlfriend, Angela Mazariegos, and the video later circulated online.
According to a police report obtained by Boston 25 News, Curll “hooked Silveira’s legs” and wrapped his arms around his neck, causing him to fall to the pavement. Swampscott Police Department Sgt. Brendan Reen confirmed to Fox News Digital that Curll has been charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. Curll pleaded not guilty on Monday and was released on personal recognizance, with a pretrial hearing scheduled for December.
Silveira shared his frustration on Facebook, writing, “My costume is ruined by a liberal lunatic.” Despite the attack, he remains steadfast, stating he will continue to support Trump “unapologetically, even if others may not like it.”
The “No Kings” rally, part of a series of protests held nationwide, including in Washington, D.C., has drawn attention for its strong anti-Trump sentiment. Other incidents at these rallies, such as protesters encouraging children to hit a Trump piñata, have also sparked controversy.
This incident highlights the heightened tensions surrounding political expression in the lead-up to the 2025 elections. As Silveira told Boston 25 News, “I love Donald Trump. Go Trump,” emphasizing his commitment to his beliefs despite the violent opposition he faced.
