POLL: DeSantis, Biden Tie In 2024 Hypothetical Showdown

President Joe Biden and Republican Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis are tied in a 2024 hypothetical presidential race, a poll released Thursday found.

The possible rivals both garnered 42% of support from survey participants if the election were currently held, a Marquette Law School poll found. Eleven percent expressed their support for “someone else” and the final 4% would not vote.

DeSantis garnered more support in comparison to the previous polls. In September, Biden led the governor by 5 percentage points, 43%-38%, in a hypothetical election. When the survey was conducted in January, Biden attained more support than DeSantis by almost ten percentage points, 43%-34%.

The president continued to lead DeSantis by three points, 39%-35%, in March, according to the survey.

Marquette University conducted the survey between Nov. 15-22 and interviewed 1,004 participants with a 3.7% margin of error.

DeSantis and former President Donald Trump are nearly tied in a hypothetical Republican primary. Though the governor has not announced his intention to run, some polls have found him to be the preferred candidate for the Republican nomination over Trump.

Recent polls from four key states — New Hampshire, Florida, Georgia and Iowa — show DeSantis up by double digits against Trump. A New Hampshire matchup has DeSantis at 52% compared to 37% for Trump, and the governor leads Trump 56%-30% in his home state of Florida.

A Texas GOP/CWS Research poll, released November 16, found that 42% of respondents preferred DeSantis and 32% supported the former president. A separate survey released by The Economist and YouGov found DeSantis to be the preferred candidate over Trump by 39% to 35%.

The increasing support for DeSantis has appeared to cause strain between himself and Trump. The former president nicknamed him “Ron DeSanctimonious” at a Nov. 6 rally in Pennsylvania as he read popularity percentages of potential candidates. He later branded DeSantis as an “average governor” who only gained popularity because of his endorsement.
