The state of Florida, under the leadership of Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL), has hired more than 1,000 law enforcement officers since July of last year as the state welcomed hundreds of thousands of new residents.
To celebrate the police officers that protect Floridians every day, Gov. DeSantis announced that each new officer will be receiving $5,000 in bonuses.
Mrs. DeSantis announced the bonuses via Twitter on Friday:
“[Governor Ron DeSantis] and I are thrilled to announce more than 1,000 new law enforcement officers have joined Florida’s ranks since July 2022 & each has received a $5,000 bonus,” the Florida first lady wrote. “We couldn’t be more thankful for our brave law enforcement who keep our communities safe!”
This isn’t the first time that DeSantis has awarded law enforcement with cash for their hard work. As previously reported by the DC Enquirer, the governor announced $1,000 bonuses in April 2022 marking the second year in a row of such an initiative.
In a press conference at the time, the governor explained that “Through the last year there was a lot of upheaval throughout our country in terms of supporting or not supporting the men and women in law enforcement.”

“Unfortunately we saw municipalities across the country slash funding for the police,” he continued. “Withdraw a lot of support, not just financial but moral support. There were a lot of folks wearing the uniform that understandably didn’t think that the communities had their back.”
“These bonuses are a well-deserved recognition to our law enforcement and first responders for all they do for Florida,” the governor stated, adding, “In addition to these bonuses for local government first responders, state law enforcement officers will be receiving a pay increase across the board.”
The governor of Florida is once again showing his leadership ability by supporting the men and women in blue that protect Floridians every day. Florida should be grateful for Ron DeSantis and Republican governors should attempt to replicate his boldness.
