On April 5, 2023, South Carolina’s Senate Judiciary subcommittee moved constitutional carry legislation forward, putting the state on track to become the 27th constitutional carry state in the nation.
In early February, South Carolina State Representative Bobby Cox originally introduced Constitutional Carry bill House Bill 3594 to pass Constitutional Carry in the state.
On February 23, the South Carolina State House voted 87-26 to pass HB 3594.
According to a report by The Post and Courier, Constitutional Carry was passed out of the Senate Judiciary subcommittee by a 3-2 vote on April 5 and is now heading to the full Judiciary Committee.
Breitbart News reached out to Cox about the constitutional carry bill on April 6. Cox said the following about Constitutional Carry:
The Senate should not delay in passing H. 3954. The House version was a collaborative effort between 2A groups and law enforcement to restore our constitutional freedom and keep guns out of the hands of criminals.
Thus far, there are 26 states with Constitutional Carry: Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Maine, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, New Hampshire, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont, West Virginia, and Wyoming.
Constitutional Carry is the most successful movement in the Second Amendment space.
Should South Carolina pass this legislation, its pro-Second Amendment profile will increase significantly. According to Guns & Ammo magazine’s best states for gun owners rankings, South Carolina is ranked in 23rd place so the state has much more work to do on improving its pro-gun profile.
At the rate things are going, nearly all red states will have Constitutional Carry by the end of 2020s. Now, that’s what you call a successful political movement.
