An older lady from California is taking legal action against McDonald’s due to an incident involving hot coffee that brings to mind the 1992 case that caught the nation’s attention.
In her 80s, Mabel Childress has secured representation from Dylan Hackett, a specialist in personal injury law and the head partner at Hackett Law Firm, as revealed by documents from the San Francisco Superior Court.
On Sept. 14, Hackett put forward five legal documents, and the following day, a summons was directed at McDonald’s Restaurants of California Inc. along with 10 other unidentified employees, as shown by the court’s records.
The legal grievance Hackett presented to the court claims that staff members of the McDonald’s outlet at 1100 Fillmore St. in San Francisco were negligent in ensuring the coffee cup lid was properly fastened.

“We take every customer complaint seriously – and when Ms. Childress reported her experience to us later that day, our employees and management team spoke to her within a few minutes and offered assistance,” Ou continued. “We’re reviewing this new legal claim in detail.”
The incident with the coffee allegedly took place “on or about June 13” when Childress visited the drive-thru of the McDonald’s on Fillmore Street, as stated in the documentation provided by Hackett.
Childress attempted to sip her coffee, yet the warm liquid reportedly poured onto her lap due to the unfastened lid, leading to “severe burns” in her groin area, as mentioned in the complaint.
